Unsecured Credit Cards
If your credit history is less than perfect and you have a bad credit score, there is still hope for you to rebuild your credit history. Just because you have messed up in your payments in past credit cards and have had to join a debt management program, does not mean that there is no more hope for you to fix things. There are ways of making things right, and one of these ways is availing of unsecured credit cards.
There are many banks and companies offering these cards today so that those with bad credit can rebuild their credit and gain back the credibility that they lost in past debts that they failed to pay off properly. However, the difference between an unsecured credit card and a regular one is that an unsecured one is loaded with more charges and fees to make up for the risk that they are taking in offering you credit.
Here are some things to look out for if you are interested in applying for a credit card that is unsecured:
• Make sure you know what the charges and fees are that will be charged on your credit card. Charges and fees may be a little higher than regular credit cards, but this is just a normal thing. The reason behind these fees is that they use the fees to offset the risk that they are undergoing by offering a person with bad credit an opportunity to avail of credit again. Read the terms of agreement and all the fine print that is involved in making the application and accepting the offer.
• Do not apply for a prepaid credit card. A prepaid credit card just gives you an opportunity to manage you money on your own terms and limit without actually having a debt. This scheme will not help you rebuild credit history at all.
• Do not apply for catalog cards either. Catalog cards offer items that are overpriced and when you buy them unreasonably high interest rates are applied. By getting catalog cards you are only using the credit of that specific company and not a bank. This will not help you rebuild your credit history in any way.
Basically, just treat your unsecured credit card as a special means in regaining your credit credibility and rebuilding your history as a responsible consumer. Do not overspend on it, use it for wise purchases or for emergencies, and always pay the minimum charges on time. By managing this kind of credit card wisely, you can be sure that your credit score will improve over the months.
